So Worth Loving

So Worth Loving.
Why wear a shirt that has “So Worth Loving” printed on the back or front of it??
1. Someone may see this reminder and have never thought about themselves as worthy of love.
2. By wearing this phrase you feel empowered. It is a reminder to you that you are worthy of love. No one can change how you view yourself except you. Know that you are worthy of love and wear this shirt boldly and proud. Your confidence will inspire others to view themselves this way too.

Need we say more?

You don’t need a holiday to feel loved. "Lace up your boots and don’t look back"

You’re about to enter a world of imagination. A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of tattered clothing and an inability to understand perfume commercials. It’s a place as vast and limitless as the Twilight Zone. It’s my mind. Maybe vast and limitless aren’t the best descriptions, but I do know the space inside my head along with the rest of my theoretical insides are definitely So Worth Loving.

Valentine’s Day is here. Also here are the constant reminders that love is in the air and the best way to show it lies in the wallet. Since when have we listened to what advertisers tell us  to do? Oh right… with the Furby, Nickelback albums, and Hot Pockets. It’s true, maybe we do take to heart what our televisions and radios tell us and maybe that is what garners feelings of having to be with a man or be in love around February 14th. To that I say, does Halloween make me a deranged serial killer for a night? No, that’s all 365 days of the year. And then I remember. I am in love, and all year. Not the “in love” that makes me lose all sense of self, but everyday I am in love with my loving family, mix of friends, my cat, and even myself.

Not in a narcissistic, nose-up way, but in a way that I am finally at a point in my life where I love who I am and am comfortable in the skin that covers this skeleton. There is a character in the play Hamlet named Ophelia. Bear with me, I am going somewhere with this. Ophelia is the love of Hamlet. She is the sister of Laertes and the daughter of Polonius. Ophelia’s love for Hamlet is incredibly strong, but she cowers to her brother and father. To her family she remains faithful as they forbid her to see Hamlet. Ophelia is stuck in a place of people compromising themselves for money, greed, and power, but she never falters. Ophelia loves with her entire heart enough to sacrifice her happiness with the man she loves for what she is told will make her family happy. It’s both admirable and pathetic, courageous and weak.

Ophelia is a portrait of a woman, as are we all. That is what makes us who we are; those things we don’t change about ourselves. Despite if people love or hate it, it’s what makes you so worth loving. Even little things, like ignoring the ethics in office attire. I have an obsession with over-sized t-shirts. There is one requirement though. I have to remove the sleeves. The norm says, “dress in business attire”, but I say, “that makes me perspire.” A night out doesn’t follow VIP code, not in this girl’s Narnia. To be comfortable I have to feel like myself. The bouncer says, “ladies, slut it up for free drinks”, but I think that is where my dignity sinks. Cut-off Chevy shirt? Check. Flat boots? Check. Self respect? Ch-check!

There are bigger things in life to remain loyal to, however. Things that reflect one’s character. Something of serious importance to me is doing something in my life that fulfills that passion we, as humans, so yearn for. Not only in a physical sense, but on a grander scale. Something that makes me want to wake up every single morning. We are taught our entire lives that there is a specific path we must take to achieve our goals in life. The path of higher education, of going to bed early, of getting an A on every test. I didn’t follow that path exactly. I’ve worked in learning a trade from some of the most talented guys in Atlanta radio. I found something that fills the need enough that I am happy to wake up long before the sun. The need to one day spend my days asking, “why is this called work?”

What makes a person so worth loving isn’t always hair color, clothing, or taste in music, because those things change. What makes a person so worth loving are the things that make you so worth loving. Don’t compromise, don’t falter. Laugh loudly, love fiercely. The path to what you want and who you are will not be the path of least resistance. Lace up your boots and don’t look back.
